About SOUTH SONDER

The Story

Honestly, it took me (the owner of SouthSonder) forever and a HALF to come up with a name for this blog. I've always used the same username for everything and I wanted to give myself a sense of ambiguity and mystery, but still find a way to describe myself in the simplest way possible. So, South Sonder was born.

I chose this name because I'm from South Canada (I know, super creative) and I LOVE the word Sonder. It sounds so deep and meaningful and in reality, it really is.

Sonder is "the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own—populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness—an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk" (The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, 2013).

I don't know about you guys, but that definition hit DIFFERENT. I'm sure everyone can relate to that exact sentiment because I know I did - hence why I chose the name and I hope I can do it justice.
