BLK is the new girl group we've ALL been waiting for

I'm constantly looking for new artists to show up for and support and as someone who's in love with just about every genre of music, I can honestly say that R&B connects with me the most. It's the music genre where you feel the most passion, rhythm, and soul and has given us the legends like TLC, Luther Vandross, Usher, and so much more.

So, finding BLK, a new R&B girl group/trio from Toronto felt like I had just discovered a pot of gold. I'm so excited to share this music recommendation with y'all because I just KNOW you guys will love them too.

The trio of Bexk, Lilac X and Korahjay - aka BLK - premiered their debut video for the single ‘Got It’ in November 7th, 2020 and when I tell you it SLAPS?!

Me, listening to Got It on repeat

The song is filled to the brim with sleek production, smooth harmonies, and messages that are related to knowing your self-worth and understanding who YOU are as an individual. We love an empowering anthem!

It's amazing to see women working together and forming girl groups again. I feel like sometime during the early 2000s, girl groups fell off the radar and more Women were pursuing solo careers (which I also support). But, it's still cool to see these girl groups starting to form again. The fact that BLK is modeled after TLC and Destiny's Child is even more exciting and I'm looking forward to seeing the artistry this group continues to create.

Excitingly enough, they have an upcoming EP coming out called 'BLK GIRL MAGIC' that I'm really looking forward to. When it comes to their unique musical identity and understanding who they are both as individuals and artists, Korahjay said, "We’re not trying to chase a certain vibe, sound, or look. We are just being ourselves.” Korahjay describes herself as being a free spirit from Montreal who comes from a Jamaican family. Hermoniker, combining words from scripture and a family name, meanspower. Bexk is a fashion design student from Toronto’s East end and is of Bajan heritage. “I’m the savage,”she admits—and uses her nickname as an alter ego. Bexk says that she“ fights for our best interests at all times, and encourages others to speak up for themselves.” Lilac X, whose exponent represents self-empowerment, considers herself a citizen of the world. If you're looking for a new girl group to support, please check out their latest music video, "GOT IT." It was released on November 7th, 2020 and it's truly worth the listen.
